In today’s world, within the paths of spirituality, yoga, and education, Guru Dakshina (the offering to the teacher) takes many forms.

These include love, service, devotion, and financial or material support — all expressions of gratitude.

When students learn an art or receive wisdom from their teacher, they may offer money, useful items, books, or essential goods to their guru — not out of compulsion, but with heartfelt love and respect.

Service (Volunteer Seva)

Participating as a volunteer in the teacher’s classes, spiritual programs, or social service activities is also a form of Guru Dakshina.

Love and Gratitude

Some consider Guru Dakshina to be living according to the Guru’s teachings. In truth, this is seen as the highest and truest form of Guru Dakshina —
“To walk on the path shown by the Guru is itself the real offering to the Guru.”

Spreading Knowledge

Sharing with others what one has learned from the Guru — spreading wisdom and uplifting others — is also a form of Guru Dakshina.
Even students who cannot offer material or financial help can still give Guru Dakshina by passing on the knowledge they received.
